Malshi Puppies

Malshi Puppies are adorable, they are playful, adventurous, and possibly the world’s cutest puppy dog. Malshi Puppies are a cute small dog breed that is also known as a Maltese cross Shih Tzu mix. Malshi dogs when fully grown only grow to 20 inches in length (50cm) and will stand at a height of up to 15 inches (38cm).

What age do Malshi puppies stop growing?

At an age of 18 months, Malshi Puppies are full-grown adults. At 8 months of age, Malshi dogs will have grown to the full size but will not have filled out to their heavier adult weight. At 8 months of age, they will have reached their full height and can look a bit lanky. From this stage, they will start to put on more weight and their frame will fill out.

What are Malshi puppies like?

Malshi Puppies are adorably cute, playful, and inquisitive. Like with all puppy litters, the Malshi puppy litter can produce a varied mix of puppies with different personalities. Some of the puppies can be more adventurous, playful, naturally clingy or excitable.

With the Malshi puppy having come from a mix of two dog breeds their appearance and temperament can vary. The Malshi was originally bred to appeal to allergic pet owners, and to have a steadier temperament than the sometimes snappy Maltese breed.

Our Malshi has grown to be an Alert, Playful, Lively, Affectionate, Loyal, Intelligent, Gentle, Sweet-Tempered, Active Malshi Dog. I would not describe our Malshi as courageous, independent or docile.

Do Malshi puppies change color?

Yes, as Malshi Puppies age their coloring will start to fade and a white coat will start to become more prominent. Malshi puppies commonly have color on their ears and snout which will fade as they grow. Our Malshi Dog had dark-colored ears when she was a puppy and a few years later her ears had faded to a light grey color.

Depending on the strength of the Maltese Terrier genetics the degree of coloring change will vary. The parents of our Malshi dog both had white colored coats, so we were told that our Malshi puppy would also have her coat coloration fade with age. Both of the parents were bred from a Maltese Terrier and a Shih Tzu.

We have a small stockpile of Malshi puppy pictures of our Malshi from her cute puppies stage. In the picture above, you can see how the Malshi Dogs color changes with age. To a certain degree the perceived color change is a result of hair growth.

Our 5 year old Malshi dog has a near pure white appearance when shaved but if the coat is allowed to fully grow out the coloration from when she was a puppy is apparent.

Are Malshis easy to potty train?

The Malshi dog like all puppies are hard to train, or at least it will take time. You can’t expect a puppy to just learn potty training, it’s a habit that will take time to develop. It will take at least two months to potty train a Malshi puppy, and even then they will still have mistakes.

A common potty training method is to isolate the puppy when you aren’t with it and place it in a controlled area. The area can have a section for eating and sleeping and then another area for going potty. During the night your puppy will choose to go potty away from its sleeping and eating area. A potty training tray or a thick layer of newspaper can be laid in this area.

You must make sure to keep this area clean. As the puppy gets older include a potty tray outside where you’re happy for the puppy to go potty. If you use newspaper then just take some of the paper outside at night before the puppies bedtime and stay outside with the puppy encouraging it to go potty.

Teach the word Potty to the puppy by repetition. When cleaning out the potty area show the puppy, use the word potty, and give the puppy praise. When the puppy does go to the toilet outside reward the puppy with affection and treats.

When the puppy goes inside where it isn’t meant to show the puppy, tell the puppy no potty firmly and take it back to its controlled area.
